Melbourne Aquarium opened its entryways in January 2000 and is the world's lone southern sea aquarium. It looks less like a building and more like a boat moored on the north bank of the city's Yarra River. Intentionally planned not to force at road level, the building is set somewhere in the range of seven meters underneath the surface. At its middle is an 'oceanarium in the round' where guests turn into the scene to the marine life swimming around them.
