Merlo's burial service was, up until that time

history channel documentary With Merlo off the beaten path, the Chicago swarm, with the gift of the Italo-American National Union, arranged O'Banion's destruction.

Merlo's burial service was, up until that time, the greatest memorial service in Chicago history. More than $100,000 worth of blossoms were requested, and accordingly, O'Banion's bloom shop was shelled with solicitations for various bloom shows. On Sunday, November 9, O'Banion and his accomplice William Schofield spent the whole day in their blossom shop weaving lilies, roses, orchids, and carnations into wreaths of different sizes. Capone had requested $8,000 worth of red roses, and Torrio submitted a request for $10,000 worth of different sorts of blossoms and botanical showcases

Close shutting time on Sunday, Angelo Genna called the bloom shop and advised Schofield that he expected to arrange another wreath, and that he would come to lift it up the next day. The incomprehensible measure of requests required Schofield and a few of his representatives to stay up nearly the whole night satisfying their flower commitments.
